The Supply Of Petroleum And Chemical Talents Is Severely Inadequate

Zhangjiagang Sansu Machine Co.,Ltd | Updated: Jan 11, 2019

"When the traditional production mode and operation mode change dramatically, the adaptability of education is obviously weak. Ren yaosheng, vice chairman of education association of China and director of education committee of China petrochemical industry, pointed out the current situation of talent cultivation in the industry at the 2018 working meeting of the national petroleum and chemical occupation education teaching steering committee held in zhuhai last week. More than 300 delegates at the meeting proposed that the chemical industry occupation education should seize the initiative, strengthen the industry talent demand survey, build the industry lifelong education system, adapt to the new situation of industry transformation and upgrading development.

Ren yaosheng said that at present, the chemical industry talent supply cold, talent pool bottom, graduates in short supply is more common, and even in the school talent two or three years in advance of the booking situation. Currently, education vocational schools nationwide provide less than 100,000 chemical industry graduates annually. There are nearly 30,000 enterprises above the scale of petrochemical industry, and each enterprise can only get 3 graduates on average. If 240,000 small and medium-sized enterprises are added, the average 3 enterprises can only share 1 graduate, and the total amount is far from meeting the needs. China is stepping forward from a petrochemical power to a petrochemical power, but the problem of talent shortage is becoming more and more prominent. According to ren yaosheng, the chemical industry education has developed rapidly in the 40 years of reform and opening up, from 4,000 students in 1978 to more than 400,000 vocational, secondary and skilled workers in 2018, with the scale increasing by about 100 times. However, since 2008, the number of undergraduate enrollment has been declining year by year, especially in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Some universities have seen a decline of 30%~50% or even 70%, and undergraduate enrollment has been declining at a double-digit rate every year.

"Our extraordinary development in the past was driven by the urgent demand for talents in the industry, which was a passive behavior rather than an active reform to adapt to the new situation." Ren yaosheng pointed out that education reform lags behind industrial reform and business reform. In the future, the education field of chemical industry must take the initiative to meet the needs of the industry and The Times, and continue to promote education and lifelong education, and strengthen the research on talents in the industry.

Referring to the school of petroleum and chemical engineering of the Open University of China, which was inaugurated at the end of last year, ren yaosheng said: "the school of petroleum and chemical engineering of the Open University of China is not simply a new school, but an important starting point for building a lifelong education system in the petrochemical industry." It is reported that the college will set up learning centers across the country, which will be jointly set up by colleges and enterprises and run by dual subjects.

Yu hongjun, deputy chairman of China chemical education association in Hong Kong, said that the school of petroleum and chemical engineering of China development university will build a lifelong education system covering the whole industrial chain of petroleum and chemical industry, and integrating educational background education at all levels with employee training, to accurately serve the lifelong learning and career development needs of employees in the whole industrial chain of petroleum and chemical industry.
